Logan Pauls Company PRIME defends amount of caffeine in their energy drink after backlash

PRIME, the beverage brand co-founded by YouTubers Logan Paul and KSI, is facing criticism for the high caffeine levels of its energy drinks.

A 12 oz. the can of PRIME Energy contains 200 mg of caffeine, compared to the 34 mg found in a 12-ounce container. 80mg Coke and Red Bull in a standard 8.4oz. Senator Chuck Schumer of New York is asking the Food and Drug Administration to look into caffeine’s potentially dangerous numbers, according to the Associated Press.

In a statement to PEOPLE, PRIME defends the amount of caffeine in their energy drinks and stresses that «it’s not made for anyone under 18.

PRIME Energy, sold in cans, came out in 2023 and contains an amount of caffeine comparable to other best-selling energy drinks, all of which are within the legal limits of the countries where it is sold, a spokesperson for the brand told PEOPLE. He complied with all FDA guidelines before going to market and clearly states on the packaging, as well as in marketing materials, that this is an energy drink and not for anyone under 18.

The statement continued: As a brand, our top priority is consumer safety, so we welcome discussions with the FDA or any other organization regarding suggested industry changes they deem necessary to protect consumers.

In 2022, Panera was under scrutiny for a drink that contained even higher levels of caffeine than PRIME Energy.

TikTok user Sarah Baus (@sarahebaus) went viral after she shared an explanation about Panera’ Mango Yuzu Citrus Charged Lemonade to her followers detailing her knowledge that the drink contains 260 milligrams of caffeine, according to the TikTok website. Panera.

As she explained to her followers, by comparison, an espresso has 63 milligrams of caffeine.

«The normal size [20 oz. lemonade] it has 82 grams of sugar. Whatever,» she said. «Let’s put it aside. It has 260 milligrams of caffeine. An espresso, I looked at it, contains 63 milligrams of caffeine… I don’t drink coffee. I don’t have much caffeine. I thought!»

The drink, as Panera’s website explains, contains «as much caffeine as our Dark Roast coffee,» with the standard size containing 260 milligrams and a large 30 fl. ounce. version containing 390. But Baus, who works from home in a Panera store and takes advantage of the free refills, admitted to «drinking four or five» during a normal working day.

Previously unaware of the contents of the caffeinated lemonade, the TikToker recalled the moment he discovered it. Baus and her husband, who is a type 1 diabetic, were walking through the Panera drive-thru. She checked the ingredients in an effort to regulate her blood sugar and they soon discovered how much caffeine she drank each day.
